The Pollachi Cattle Market in Tamil Nadu is known as the largest cattle market in the state and one of the biggest markets in Asia. It is currently located in Thippampatti. The market operates on two days a week, specifically Tuesdays and Thursdays. During these two days, more than 2,000 cows are sold at the market.
The market is quite popular and attracts a significant number of buyers and sellers not only from Tamil Nadu but also from neighboring states such as Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Karnataka. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the market sees over 3,500 cattle being brought in each day.
In Tamil Nadu, there are a total of 125 cattle shandies (markets) which collectively contribute to a business of Rs. 100 crore per month, which translates to Rs. 25 crore per week. Out of this, Pollachi alone accounts for a business of Rs. 5 crore per week.
