Tamilnadu State Transport Corporation(Tirunelveli) Limited

Established on December 12, 1973, as the Kattabomman Transport Corporation Ltd, this entity commenced operations on January 1, 1974, with its headquarters in Nagercoil. It was carved out of the Pandian Roadways Corporation to address the transportation needs in the region.

Bifurcation and Regional Focus

On April 1, 1983, the corporation underwent a bifurcation, resulting in the formation of two distinct entities. The Kattabomman Transport Corporation Ltd was established in Tirunelveli to cater to the public of Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi Districts, while the Nesamony Transport Corporation Ltd was founded in Nagercoil to serve the transportation requirements of the Kanyakumari District.

Name Changes and Amalgamation

Over time, these entities went through name changes. The Kattabomman Transport Corporation Ltd transformed into Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (MDU.Dvn-II) Ltd., Tirunelveli, while the Nesamony Transport Corporation Ltd became the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (MDU.Dvn-III) Ltd., Nagercoil, effective from July 1, 1997.

Subsequently, an amalgamation occurred with the Tamilnadu State Transport Corporation (Madurai) Ltd., headquartered in Madurai, under the Amalgamation Policy on February 12, 2004. This led to a restructuring and the emergence of Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (Tirunelveli) Ltd. as a separate entity from November 1, 2010.

To better serve the specific needs of Thoothukudi District, a dedicated region named “Thoothukudi” was established on June 26, 2013, under the control of the General Manager, with six branches.
