Ariyalur district is a district in the state of Tamil Nadu, India.The town is located at a distance of 310 km (190 mi) from the state capital Chennai It is located in the central part of the state, and is bordered by the districts of Tiruvannamalai, Thanjavur, Perambalur, Cuddalore, and Mayiladuthurai. The district is named after its headquarters, the town of Ariyalur.

Ariyalur district is a rice-growing district, and is also known for its production of sugarcane, cotton, and tobacco. The district is home to a number of historical sites, including the Airavatesvara Temple, the Brihadeeswarar Temple, and the Tiruporur Temple.

Airavatesvara Temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is one of the most important temples in Tamil Nadu. The temple is dedicated to Shiva, and was built in the 11th century by the Chola kings.
